Give your puppy praise and a reward for using the bathroom outside. This needs to be done before you come back inside.

To help regulate his bathroom schedule, a regular feeding schedule should be use too. Eating three to four times a day is normal for puppies. By feeding him at the same time each day potty training him will be easier as well.

To keep your puppy from needing to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, put his dishes up about two hours before bedtime. If he does wake up in the middle of the night, stay calm, so he won’t think it is time to play. Don’t turn on a lot of lights or play with him. Take him outside and then go back to bed.

Supervise.

While your puppy is in the house, watch him so he will not have an accident.

When the puppy is not being trained or played with, have him on a six foot leash beside you. If he begins sniffing, barking, circling, scratching at the door or becomes restless, he may need to use the bathroom. Take him outside immediately if you notice this behavior. Use praise or treats to reward him when he is done using the bathroom.

The American Eskimo Dog is frequently called a Spitz in America. The American Eskimo Dog is a loving, alert, quick, beautiful, social, and curious pet and companion. She makes an excellent protective dog however is controlled to be not threatening or aggressive. It has a cream straight outer coat, with a thick undercoat. There is a lion appearance as the coat is longer and thicker around the chest and neck and has a heavy tail carried on the back. There are three sizes of the American Eskimo Dog labeled as Toy, Miniature or Standard. The Toy goes from 9 to 12 inches to the withers (which is the tallest point of the back), the Miniature goes 12 to 15 inches to the withers and the Standard goes 15 inches to19 inches to the withers.

The American Eskimo Dog, like many big dogs, are susceptible to patellar luxation, hip dysplasia, flea allergies, hot spots, epilepsy, cataracts, and Leg-Calve-Perthes Disease. They have no tolerance for fleas and can get extreme flea allergies which can result in painful skin lesions. Their skin is usually dry so they do not need to be bathed more than once every two or three months. All dogs should have their teeth brushed once a week. The thick coat is easy to groom and remember to brush two times a week with a firm bristle. They are a medium shed breed, usually around May or June and then second time around November and December. Many owners use an undercoat rake to groom which is available on line or check your local pet stores.

The American Eskimo Dog derives from the ancient Spitz family. They are recognized as the German Spitz in Germany. Hailing from the coastal regions of Germany, these dogs were once traded throughout Europe. When this family dog came to America along with German immigrants, they were used as family pets, watch dogs and circus animals. Circuses would sell puppies after performances and that was how they spread throughout the U.S.. They were popular during the 1930’s and 1940’s. Since we were at war with Germany, they were renamed during World War I. They were recognized as a breed in 1913.

The Association Of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) regulate and set standards for the pet food industry. AAFCO runs tests on the ingredients used in the preparation of pet food to assure that they meet certain nutritional guidelines. These guidelines have a rather wide range of acceptability due to the number of different qualities of pet foods. Therefore, having the AAFCO stamp of approval on a dog food label does not necessarily mean the food is good for our dogs.

There is much information found on a dog food label. Much of which is difficult to understand. So how are we to know what we are actually buying? How can we tell what is the best dog food and what is a poor quality product. In order to tell the difference we must learn how to correctly read what we are being told on the label.

Probably one of the first things we first look for in a label is the brand name. Many of us buy dog food just by the brand or product name. Constant exposure to repeated brand and product name marketing have led us to believe that the product is good. However here is something to keep in mind. If the product name has the name of a certain ingredient, then that ingredient must be 95% of the total weight if the food is dry, or 70% if it is wet food. If the label title has the words like dinner or formula, then the ingredient must be 25% of the weight.

Dog food labels list their ingredients in descending order of their weight. If we take the above “chicken dinner” product as an example, chicken would be listed but it would not be the main ingredient since it only has to weigh 1/4 of the product’s total weight. Corn meal or bone meal, found in most cheaper brands, would more than likely be the main ingredient in this dinner product.

Many labels don’t mention an ingredient in the product name. Instead the word “flavored” will be used. In this case there is no amount requirement for a percentage of an ingredient in the product. The product, with whatever ingredients are used, is just flavored with the taste of say chicken. “Natural” dog food is another word found on labels. All that this is stating is that no artificial colors or ingredients, and preservatives are being used. “Premium” dog food is worth mentioning because products using this word in their labels follow the AAFCO standards to the fullest and their products provide good nutritional value.

An easy way to determine if the dog food you are buying is of good quality is to find the fat source ingredient on the content list. Look for such ingredients as beef fat or chicken fat. Ingredients listed before this fat source are main ingredients. If there are just a few ingredients listed before the fat source the product is good. The quality of the product diminishes with the addition of more ingredients. The ingredients listed after the fat source are just food enhancers and fillers.

Because of busy schedules many of us have to feed our dogs commercial brands. By just taking a little extra time we can prevent exposing our animals to poor quality foods. If we read an ingredient that we are unfamiliar with or that we would not eat ourselves, then why would we think of feeding it to our dogs. Lets be more careful when reading those dog food labels.

There is nothing worse than being pulled by your dog while you are walking him and people are laughing at you. Well now you can stop your dog from pulling on the leash and be a proud owner of a well trained dog.

The reason why dogs pull at their leash is quite simple really, they love chasing things and if they see a cat, then there is no stopping them. They also get very excited with the idea of actually walking with you and can’t contain themselves and hence they walk fast.

Naturally it’s best to start with your training when he’s still a puppy, but if this is not possible you can teach an old dog new tricks. A word of advise, it’s better for the dog’s health if you don’t use a choke collar. They are known to cause damage to the throat and vocal cords.

Also start training your dog indoors and where there are very little distractions. Do not put a harness or leash on him yet as your aim here is to teach your dog to follow you. Place an object on the palm of your hand and show your dog what you have. Say the word “touch” and let him then try to touch the object with his nose. Hold your hand to your side while doing this. Walk away and let the dog follow you to touch the object again. He must never be in front of you. He must always follow you then touch the object. Give him a nice treat if he touches the object but is not in front of you.

Do take into consideration that you are teaching your dog a completely new and strange behavior and it will take a while before he gets what you want from him. Persevere and you will be rewarded as well.

Once he understands then you can start putting a harness on him and doing the same command indoors. This should go quickly. Gradually take him outside and let him practice in the garden. Monitor his behavior and if you are happy, then take him out onto the road or into a park. He should now know that when his harness is on he must walk next to you or behind you.

Always keep in mind that to stop your dog from pulling on the leash is something that must be taught with great patience and lots of love and understanding, this will be so rewarding when you walk on the street and your dog is well behaved.

Persian cats have always been regarded as rather regal and grand cats. Pedigree Persian cats are big in body structure and have powerful legs and punched faces with stocky bodies. These cats seem to be a magnet for warmth for those fond of cats and sometimes even for those who are not.

The Persian breed of cats is again divided on the basis of some of their characteristics. When you examine them closely you will find that there are subtle differences in the color of their body hair. There are some outstandingly different features which make the Chinchilla breed stand out.

In’08 with the Chinchilla Cat Club established, the cats started being exported to the United States. To really know and value a Chinchilla Persian cat you have to make sure its a pure-bred cat, and to differentiate whether it surely is a Chinchilla Persian cat or not is to observe the color of its coat since that is the basis on which Persian cats are categorized. The extent of colored hair can vary. For instance a Persian with a black coat, the color would be on only about 1/7th of the hair.

To describe a chinchilla cat you will always see that they have an undercoat of compltely white hair and the hair on head, tail back and flanks is black on the tips due to which they look as if they have a silver coat. Some cats have a multiple colored under coat which has marvelous result as far as their coat is concerned and are called Golden Shaded which look absolutely stunning to the eye. Another fantastic breed is the Cameo Persian cat which has got some red tips on their coat.

All these cats are known for their gorgeous dark rimmed eyes, nose and mouth, except for the Golden shaded whose eyes and nose is outlined in brown in place of black. The eye color of these cats is primarily supposed to be green or blue-green. This established characteristic in all Chinchilla, Golden Shaded, Silver Shaded and Cameo Persian cats helps to differentiate the pedigree because a pure-bred cats eye color will be either green or blue-green.

A serious and common disease affecting a number of dogs is kidney disease. In older dogs it is probably one of the leading causes of death. Acute or chronic are the two forms that this disease can take. While the acute form happens very suddenly the chronic form starts slowly and gets worse with time. This disease causes a loss of approximately seventy percent of normal kidney function and it is these organs that act as the body’s filtration system. If these do not work properly, toxins and waste products slowly build up in the blood. This can lead to a variety of problems, and sadly, eventual death. This unfortunately is the harsh reality of canine kidney disease.

Kidney failure in dogs stops the ability of the body to function properly. Toxins begin to build up in their bodies and once this starts, a number of symptoms and warning signs will more than likely become apparent. These two chronic diseases show different symptoms, the acute form can appear more suddenly. Often, dogs suffering from this type of kidney disease will possibly have become dehydrated. For the owner to test for hydration, gently pull on the skin of your dog’s stomach. This should spring back. If it doesn’t, there may be a possibility that your dog is dehydrated.

Your dog may have noticeable trouble passing urine or produce no urine as all. Your pet may be a victim of acute kidney disease if they have this warning sign. You may see your animal moving with an arched back or stiff legs and your dog can have extreme pain in the kidneys. Any dog owner should be sure to watch for these signs of kidney disease.

In the case of chronic kidney disease, the symptoms are different and they occur over a period of time. The first indicator is an increase in thirst and consequently water consumption. This is a constant indicator of the disease. The dog might lose his or her desire to eat resulting in excessive weight loss over time. Contrary to the acute kidney disease, in the chronic version, the canine loses control over its bladder function. As a result, it urinates very frequently. As time passes, the process of urinating will cause extreme discomfort and become very painful. It is possible that there might even be blood in the urine or it may become impossible for the dog to urinate completely. Since the chronic kidney disease is a fatal illness, it is advisable to rush your pet to the veterinarian as soon as you see any of the warning signs such as problem in urination, vomiting, lethargy and depression. Any combination of these signs is a sure shot reason to go to the vet. If caught in time, there is hope for cure of this malady.

The treatment that a vet will start, for this very serious ailment, is typically four staged. The first step is to carry out a physical check up to eliminate other reasons for the symptoms. Next is the verification from the owner regarding the history and symptoms of this disorder. Then there will be tests – a blood test and finally a urine test to confirm the prognosis.
