Keep Your Kids Moving
No CommentsPhysical education has been a part of school’s curriculum for as long a we can remember. It is needed for our children’s health that they find ways to be active. The type of activity is not what is important, it is just important for them to be active. Obesity is a problem that is increasing in our society and childhood obesity is also growing. If we do not change the culture that are kids are growing up with today, then are kids will be facing major difficulties in the future.
Childhood obesity is a major problem that is facing our kids. Being overweight can lead to increased illnesses in children. The fat kid in class is often made fun of, plus they may find themselves missing more school because they are not as healthy. Many of these issues can be reduced if kids are active, which does not mean that a kid has to do some every day, but it means that a kid needs to be outside playing something that will raise their heart rate some instead of sitting on a couch playing with some video games for a couple of hours a day. If they can get outside and run around for sixty minutes a day, they can often avoid the problems that come with being overweight. Parents can no longer count on their child’s school to provide the opportunity for our kids to get the exercise they need. The burden now falls more on the parents to give their children the chances to get up an get moving.
If a parent is unsure how to get their kids away from the videos games and to get them active then they can find help on the internet through support groups like the that offers discussion groups where a parent can find the support of others in the same situation. A lot of organizations can be found that have activities that are designed to keep the children active. Staying fit should not be a chore for a young person or they will not want to perform it often. Joining a sports team might cause problems financially or with time and if that is the case then parents need to find the time to do something with their kids. Unless the weather is really bad, there should be nothing stopping the adults from involving their kids in things that can be done outdoors. Parents will be rewarded when they share their time with their kids with whatever they are able to do together even if it is just walking around the neighborhood with each other.
Just as important as being active, children must eat correctly. They should not eat excessive amounts of food that is high in sugar and low in nutrients. Kids should not skip any meals, they should just limit what they eat at each meal. The meals should include foods from all of the major food groups and should have proper portion sizes. Kids should not learn that their dinner comes from a drive thru window.
Kids don’t need to diet to stay at a healthy weight, and they don’t need to learn , but they do need to learn that exercise and a proper diet is an important part of their life, just like taking a bath and brushing their teeth is important and it is something that must be a part of their life every day. By learning this at an early age, it will lead to good habits latter in their life. This job falls upon the adults in a child’s life to give them these lessons.
