• Home Security Camera System – How Do You Choose the Best?

A lot of thought should go into your home security camera system. Along with the other components of your security system, cameras can help deter and nab burglars and criminals. There are however, so many camera types and systems to choose from. How do you get just the right one for you? It all starts with basic research.

    Lens and Form

You have the option of selecting from cameras of different lenses and forms. Some cameras come in box shapes while others are shaped like small bullets or upside-down domes. The professional box type cameras, however, are mostly preferred. Mostly, it depends on the brand as some carry multiple adjustable lenses and can have optional weatherproofing for outdoor use. Dome and bullet types can have more limited lens capabilities but they can have some extra features. The CNB V2315NVD for example is a vandal proof dome camera. The Provideo CVC-320WP has infrared capabilities.

Take note that not all brands are the same. Different brands have different features regardless of form. What you need to find out is what you need so you can match it with what is available. Some points to determine include your need for night vision, waterproofing, adjustable lenses and heavy duty casing.

    Overt or Covert

Home security camera system can be openly displayed or hidden. In most cases, overt cameras can be placed in prominent places around your house where both guests and intruders are constantly reminded that there is always an eye watching whatever happens. This can discourage and foil any plans of negative actions.

Cameras that are hidden from sight are called covert cameras. These usually come as small ballpoints and are hidden in ordinary household items like stuffed toys, furniture, decorations and fixtures. Although these are often used to monitor nannies or house workers, they can also be used to spot possible intruders who are already inside your home.

Your system can be one or the other. It usually makes sense though to have a mix of camera types in a system. You can have both covert and overt units in your system.

    Functional or Not

Most security cameras are costly. This is the reason why some homeowners would resort to using fake or dummy cameras, thinking that the sight of one can be enough to discourage any possible intruder. It is important to remember though that not all burglars are easily spooked. Those who can tell the difference between real and fake units may take the risk of trespassing so it is better not to take your chances with fake displays. You may have saved a hundred dollars from buying a real one but you can easily lose your home and other precious valuables with a fake one as well.

When it comes to choosing your home security camera system, one cannot afford to make the wrong choice. The above points are just some of the basic considerations should help you make initial decisions about the right camera for your home security needs. You can also get the help of an expert from home security for recommendations. If you cant get over your confusion though, you would be better off asking for expert recommendations from security companies who know home security inside out.
